Lorna Pearson was a cherished member of the Raintree Village community in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for family and friends. She touched the lives of many with her warmth, compassion, and her laugh that filled a room. She passed quietly at her home with her beloved partner, Gary, by her side.
Lorna is survived by loving family, including daughter Cheryl and Rick, daughter Sandra and Mark, grandchildren Kyle and Jake, Kelsey and Cody, Michael and Karrissa (and great-granddaughter due this Fall), Sarah, Jason, great-grandson Jayden, and Lorna's partner, Gary, as well as numerous relatives and friends who will deeply miss her. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Stanley, on September 23rd, 2006.
Lorna Margaret Georgia Morgan was born in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, on September 25th, 1940. She married Stanley William Pearson, on April 23rd, 1960, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Lorna, Stan, and their 2 daughters moved to Kansas City, Missouri in December of 1964, as Stan transferred to Kansas City Southern Railroad from the Canadian Pacific Railroad, and have lived in the Kansas City area since that time.
Lorna took the opportunity to stay at home when the girls were young and enjoyed watching them at various concerts and other school events. She then went to work for the Hickman Mills School District – first as a teaching assistant in a special-needs classroom at an elementary school and then as the secretary to the guidance counselors at Hickman Mills High School. During the summers, when school was out, she loved traveling – she made several trips back to Canada, went to Great Britain with her mother, sister, and sister-in-law, went to Europe with Cheryl and Kyle, went on several “girls trips” with Sandra, Kelsey, and Sarah to the beach, went on casino trips with her friend Laura, as well as to most states around the United States with Stan.
She adored her grandchildren and great-grandson and spent many days at various school events and sporting events! And she was so looking forward to having a new great grandbaby this fall.
She was a proud member of P.E.O. for many years. She also volunteered as a docent at the Kansas City Zoo for quite a few years, and she loved teaching zoo school and sharing animals at school visitations, as well as doing docent talks at the zoo.
A service to celebrate Lorna's life will be held on August 7th at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, KCMO, where all who knew her are welcome to pay their respects and share memories. Visitation will begin at 10:00am; Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00; Entombment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Kansas City Zoo in Lorna's honor. May she rest in peace, forever remembered and loved.
