
Louvesta Ann Shelton, 80, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away February 19, 2011. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel with rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 9020 E. 51st Terrace Raytown, Mo. Burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Ann was born on July 10, 1930, in Kansas City to Raymond and Louvesta Mundy. She was a graduate of Lillis High School and Salutatorian of her class. Ann attended Kansas City area community colleges. As a young girl, she was a champion roller skater, receiving several regional, state and national medals. She was an avid snow and water skier and enjoyed the game of golf. In her 40s she decided to take up flying and became a private pilot in addition to being the President of the Missouri Pilots association for many years. Ann flew all over the United States; her idea of a scavenger hunt was flying from city to city. She was a member of the National Auctioneers Association. Together, Ann and Doug enjoyed world travel, playing bridge and spending time with their family. She retired from Frito- Lay, Inc. as an administrative assistant to the Vice President of Sales. In her later years, Ann became an organist and enjoyed entertaining her family, especially with her rendition of "Danny Boy." Ann was a devout Catholic and received the Bishop's award in recognition for her outstanding contributions to the life and work of the church in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Raymond "Bud" Mundy. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Douglas; three children, Debbie Ambrose (Greg), Douglas E. Shelton, Jr. (Stephannie) and Donna Thomas; her sister, Shirley Grampsas (Denny); two sisters-in-law, Judy Collins and Flora Mundy; seven grandchildren, Katie Suisman (Tony), Christopher Thomas, Brian Thomas, Matthew Ambrose (Melanie), Michael Ambrose, Douglas E. Shelton III and Abby Shelton and a great granddaughter, Hailey Suisman. Ann will be truly missed by her family and many friends. Condolences may be left at www.mcgilleysheil.com.
