Luanne Neuner, born April 17, 1935, in Sherman, Texas, died December 27, 2023, in Overland Park, Kansas. A Memorial Celebration of Life service will be held at noon on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Shadow Glen Golf Club. Her family is requesting no flowers but would prefer donations be made to the Johnson County Extension Master Gardeners at https://www.johnson.k-state.edu/lawn-garden/extension-master-gardeners/.
Her early years were spent with her parents, Myers and Louise Suddath, and sister, Marylin, in the small town of Whitesboro, Texas. The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, during the Great Depression but the girls remained close to their grandparents and spent most summers in Texas.
Luanne attended school in Cleveland. She graduated from John Marshall High School, Class of 1953, and attended The Ohio State University for two years where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and elected to the May Queen Court.
She moved to Kansas City in 1955 to become a stewardess for Trans World Airways. The company had purchased a fleet of Constellation planes and she flew for TWA for more than three years. She enjoyed seeing different parts of the US and especially taking in Broadway musicals in New York City.
She married Richard Loupee in 1958 and they adopted their daughter, Andrea, in 1966. “Andy” was the love of their lives but unfortunately died on her 22nd birthday in 1988.
Luanne taught Montessori Pre-School and ran LuSchu Estate Sales, a successful estate-sale business, with partner Topper Schumacher and friend Lola Carter. For 19 years she was employed by the American Royal Association where she coordinated the American Royal Parade, the Concert for Champions, Children’s Art Contest and assisted in decorating the new American Royal building.
Luanne married Joseph Neuner in 1980 and their marriage continued for 43 years. They were active in the Saddle and Sirloin Club where Luanne chaired the 1991 Ladies Trail Ride, taking 90 women to Shangri La, an Oklahoma resort.
Joe and Luanne traveled extensively and visited more than 50 countries. With Luanne’s sister, Marylin, and brother-in-law, Jon Greeneisen, they also explored the wonders of Kansas. The Neuners had a winter home in Indian Wells, CA, for 30 years and enjoyed residing there to escape cold Kansas winters.
Luanne was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter GP, for more than 60 years. She became a Master Gardener in 2007 and volunteered at Monet Garden at the Overland Park Arboretum. The Neuner home in Cedar Creek was featured on the 2014 Master Gardener Home Tour. Luanne loved decorating her homes which were photo-features in several County Living Magazine issues. Hooking rugs, needle pointing and antiquing (most of all) were favorite hobbies.
Luanne is predeceased by her husband, Joe Neuner, her parents, Myers and Louise Suddath, her daughter, Andrea Loupee, and sister, Marylin Greeneisen.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Jon Greeneisen, niece Lee (George) Betz, great-niece, Louise (Ryan) Klein, great-nephew, George Betz, dear friend Maggie Vanderwoude, plus Joes’ sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Karri Neuner, Steve and Suzanne Neuner, Richard and Sol Neuner, and Joe’s grandchildren, Shannon, Eric, Kyle and Kinsey Neuner.
