Luca Ray Dixon

March 11, 2018August 3, 2018

Our sweet boy, Luca Ray Dixon, passed away at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City on August 3rd, 2018 after complications while battling a congenital underdevelopment of his lymphatic system. He fought so hard and was loved so much in his time with us.

Luca was born on March 11th, 2018 into the care of the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. At 7 weeks old, his parents were finally able to hold him and he made them so happy. At 8 weeks old, he was able to make the trip to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, where he continued to receive the very best care from the doctors, nurses, and staff there. He was blessed to have so many smart, compassionate, and loving people care for him.

Luca loved to suck on his ET tube, his pacifier, and the fingers of his respiratory therapists and nurses. He loved oral care, and he loved to grasp his parents’ fingers, his rings, and his octopus with his strong little hands. His parents loved to hold him, make him listen to Celtic lullabies, and tell him how proud they were of how hard he was fighting.

Luca will be so incredibly missed. There are so many days, events, and milestones we hoped to share with him that will be missed, but we are also grateful that he gave us the time he was able to give and the strength that he had. His name was chosen because it means “light” and he did indeed shine brightly even in times of darkness and uncertainty. We know he will continue to light the way all our days. Loving him, caring for him, and watching him persevere brought out the best in everyone around him.

Luca goes ahead of his parents, Rhea and Lee Dixon, his big brother Miles, his Aunt Gail, his Uncle Dathan and Aunt Hannah, his Papa Willie and Grandma Peg, his Grami Tami and Grandpa Charlie, his Grandpa Michael and Grandma Sue, his Great Grandma Wanda and Great Grandpa Willie, his Great Grandma Charlotte, and his Great Grandpa Dale. We hope he is in the arms of his Great Grandma Harken and Great Grandpa Harken, Great Grandpa Wagner, Great Grandma Shirley, and Great Grandma Barb.

A visitation will be held at noon on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm.

Thank you to family & friends who came to remember & honor my sweet grandson, Luca Ray Dixon, yesterday. Lee, Rhea, and Miles are blessed to have so many thoughtful, caring people in their lives.

Luca's sweet face will forever be etched into my mind. The few times that I was blessed to have him hold my finger are precious memories to me.
