

Lucia (Lucy) M. Retherford Harlan passed away peacefully on November 1, 2021, at her residence in Overland, KS. Lucy was born in Phoenix, AZ on December 10, 1921. Lucy was best known for her smile and fun-loving nature as well as her love of dancing, crossword puzzles and playing cards. She lived in Phoenix, AZ, Lawrence, KS, Alamogordo, NM and Belton, MO. She spent many of her later years at Carnegie Village Independent Living in Belton, MO and Villa Ventura Assisted Living in KCMO before moving to her daughter’s home in Overland Park, KS.
She spent her working years performing clerical duties for the University of Kansas and US Air Force. She was busy in her post retirements years helping to raise her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister, Delores (Bones) French of Ottawa, KS, her daughter, Joyce (Retherford) Overly, her grandchildren, Brian Overly, Sarah Overly and Leslie Overly, and her 4 great grandchildren, Tanner Overly, Parker Overly, Taylor Overly and Adelyn Overly – all living in Overland Park, KS; as well her 2 grandchildren John K. Retherford and Nori Retherford of Tacoma, WA.
She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, John H. Retherford (1990), her son, John M. Retherford (2021), her 2nd husband Glen Harlan, her parents, Francisco Yriarte and Lucia Figueroa Yriarte, and 5 of her sisters.
Services were held at Leavenworth National Cemetery on November 8, 2021 for the immediate family.
