

Lucille was born in Kenneth, Kansas on October 10th 1934 to her parents Camille Samyn and Emma Samyn. When Lucille was a young child her parents moved to Turner, Kansas where her father was a truck farmer. She would talk about when she was old enough, she would get to go to the city market with him once in a while. They would leave the farm very early in the morning hours with his truck loaded up with fresh vegetables to sell that coming day. This was in the early 1940s when the city market was in its hay day.
Lucille graduated from Turner Grade School in 1950 in Turner, Kansas and Wyandotte High School in 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas. After high school she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a long-distance operator. She also worked for H.D. Lee Garment Company in the office for four years while the office was located at 20th and Main in Kansas City, Missouri.
She met her husband Glen R. Grotewiel in the spring of 1955 on Easter Sunday through a friend. They were married in 1956. She followed him to Kansas City, MO where she spent the rest of her life. This union brought one son and two daughters. After she raised her family and baby sat her two grandsons she went to work for Gordmans Half Price Clothing Store for ten years, she retired officially in 1999.
Lucille has been a member of St. Bernadettes church since it started in 1959 and was a member of Small Christian Communities for several years.
She enjoyed the family cabin which was located close to Warsaw, Missouri for many years. She also enjoyed the many road trips with her daughters after she lost her husband. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and canning with the vegetables from her garden. Lucille loved cooking for her family always on holidays. Through the years most of all she loved the outside taking care of her vegetable garden and many flower beds.
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Glenn, of 39 years who died in 1995.
Lucille is survived by one brother, Constant Samyn. One son, Gerald E. Grotewiel, and two daughters, Judith M. (David) Agee and Lori Grotewiel. Lucille is also survived by her grandsons, Michael Geren III of Blue Springs, Missouri and Steven Geren (Lauren Gordon) of Kansas City, Missouri. She is also survived by her great-grandson Austin A. Geren of Blue Springs, Missouri, two nephews John (Jennifer) Samyn of Overland Park, Kansas and David Samyn of Olathe, Kansas, and one niece, Karen M. (Thomas) Bartelli of Overland Park, Kansas.
Mom was devoted to her family, and we are going to miss her deeply.
