Lula was born on February 26, 1932 in Sullivan County, Missouri to Eugene and Myrtle Burchett. She grew up on the farm and attended school in Humphreys, Missouri. Lula was active in school, performing in a quartet during graduation exercises. She was listed among “Outstanding Students” and was voted “Most Courteous Girl”. Lula graduated high school with the class of 1949.
Lula was married to Marvin Worboys on June 25, 1950 in Trenton, Missouri. They moved to Kansas City, where they raised two children. Lula was totally invested in the lives of her children, always active in their activities, especially their spiritual wellbeing. Grandchildren only grew that investment, as spending time at Grandma’s was a special treat.
After retirement, Lula and Marvin enjoyed camping and fishing. They took great joy in accumulating fish all summer, which allowed them to provide a fish fry in the fall for their home church.
After 61 years of marriage, they were separated by Marvin’s death in 2011. On July 4, 2026, they were reunited.
Lula was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Worboys, parents Eugene and Myrtle Burchett, brother Leamon Burchett, and son-in-law David Barnes.
She is survived by her daughter Diana Barnes, son Rex Worboys (Kristi), Bill Burchett (Dorothy), Bob Burchett (Elaine), Gary Burchett (Becky), Joanna Burchett, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
