November 2, 1951 – July 7, 2020
Lynn Sutherland Heitman, 68 of Overland Park, Kansas, gained her wings on Tues. July 7, 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri. She suffered a severe subarachnoid hemorrhage 16 days earlier. She did not go out without a fight. Lynn grew up on a working horse ranch in south Overland Park. Her love for horses lasted her lifetime and she was a devoted “horse show mom” to her daughter, Allison, who shared her award-winning equestrian talents. Her love for animals led her to become a Docent at the Kansas City Zoo where she served as President for several years. Lynn was a proud graduate of The Barstow School Class of 1970 and served on the Alumni Board. She was a natural athlete growing up with many accolades from her years as an AAU Swimmer and Diver. She later earned her BS in Physical Education from Arizona State University, and regularly volunteered with Special Olympics Kansas. Lynn always had a smile on her face and a comment about everything. She was heard before seen and loved by many, including her sweet dog, Maddie. Lynn was fiercely loyal to her family, her hobbies and her friends. She loved making jewelry and shared her pieces as gifts often. She was a faithful employee at Prydes for forty years. Lynn is preceded in death by her parents Robert Q. Sutherland and Barbara Welch Thompson, and her sister Melody Sutherland Knight. She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Jeff, and her daughter Allison and son-in-law Nathan Chick, sister Pamela Sutherland Gyllenborg (John), brother Dr. Bradford Lance Sutherland (Fleda), and numerous treasured cousins, nieces and nephews. Private services will be held with the family on Saturday, July 11. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Stroke Foundation in her memory at www.americanstroke.org or mail to 6405 Metcalf Ave., Suite 214, Overland Park, KS 66202. The family asks that you take time today to let your loved ones know how much you care about them, that’s what Lynn would have wanted. “May you walk the path before you With Angels by your side, And may the peace and love of God Within your heart abide.” -Clay Harrison (from Lynn’s Magic Book)See more See Less
