Lynn George Stiles

Born April 12, 1941, in Kermit, Texas, to his beloved parents, Estil and Inabelle, with two older brothers, Jack and Don.

Lynn was a devoted and fun natured husband, father and grandfather who delighted in every moment spent with his family enjoying together fishing, camping, boating, riding sea-doos, golfing and family occasions at home.

A proud graduate of the University of Utah, where he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant in 1963-1964. Lynn married his college sweetheart Marigene and embarked on a remarkable journey in football that spanned more than four decades and 61 years of marriage. He coached at the University of Iowa in 1965-1970, going on to the Liberty Bowl and UCLA in 1971-1975, where the Bruins celebrated a Rose Bowl victory. He then became head coach as San Jose State, guiding the Spartans to two PCAA championships in 1976 and 1978. Lynn continued his career in the NFL with Philadelphia Eagles in 1979-1986, reaching the Super Bowl following the 1980 season. He later joined the San Francisco 49ers in 1987-1991, earning two cherished Super Bowl rings from the back-to-back championships of 1988 and 1989. He served as Vice President of Player Personnel for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1992-1996 and then went with the St Louis Rams in 1997-1999, where he celebrated yet another Super Bowl championship with dear friend and mentor, Dick Vermeil. Lynn returned to the Chiefs in 2000 as Vice President of Football Operations, under his close friend, Carl Peterson, until he retired in 2008. Known for his keen eye for talent and his personal dedication while mentoring young athletes, Lynn took great joy in opening doors and encouraging opportunities for them to fill their potential. Many counted on him not only as a coach and executive, but as a loyal trusting friend.

Lynn is survived by his beloved wife, Marigene; his children, Staci, Shon and Tiffany; five grandchildren, Daniel, Brooke, Siena, Crew and Ella; two great grandchildren, Penelope and Elliott. He was preceded in death by his loving son, Blake.

A memorial service will be held for Lynn on Friday, July 17 at 1:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Olathe Stake Center, 15915 W. 143rd Street, Olathe, KS. The burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 13901 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe, KS at 2:15pm, and a Celebration of Life will be held directly after, back at the church, from 2:30-5:00pm.

Lynn’s most loved scripture was Isaiah 40:31, “They will soar on wings like eagles.”
