There will be a visitation on Monday, April 29th, 2024 from 3 to 5pm at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home in Kansas City, Missouri. A private family burial will follow.
Lynne Carter Murray was born on April 23, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri to William Levan & Mary Carter Thurman of Richmond, Missouri. She attended Richmond Public Schools and graduated from Richmond High School in 1971. Following graduation, Lynne attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri where she earned a Bachelor of Arts and amassed many life-long friends.
She later moved to Kansas City, where you could find her modeling for various department stores and catalogues such as Harzfeld’s and The Jones Store Co. She later earned her Funeral Director’s license and briefly worked in the Funeral business, just as her father and brother had done. She later moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1995 where she kept herself busy substitute teaching at both of her daughter’s schools (much to their chagrin), assisting a friend with her floral business on the weekends and also began a side business faux painting furniture and homes. All of her jobs were part time and for fun as the majority of her time was spent as a genuinely sweet mother, wife and friend.
She was a very talented artist and she especially enjoyed painting. She loved all kinds of music and you could always find her on the dance floor. She and her husband, Kevin, attended many concerts together over the years and enjoyed seeing the world together. She was a true lover of all animals and had many cats and golden retrievers throughout her lifetime. She made the most of her life and she enjoyed every minute. She will be remembered for her huge personality, her infectious laugh and her unmatched fashion sense and goofy sense of humor.
Survivors include her husband, Kevin A. Murray of Leawood, KS; two daughters, Clare C. Goodall and her husband, Blade of the British Virgin Islands and Ann C. Diefenbach and her husband, Nick of St. Louis, MO; three granddaughters, Grace C. Diefenbach and Peyton T. Diefenbach of St. Louis, MO and Sailor R. Goodall of British Virgin Islands, one grandson, Stiles C. Goodall of British Virgin Islands. She was preceded in death by her parents, Levan & Mary Thurman of Richmond, MO, and her brother Bruce L. Thurman of Kansas City, MO. Additionally, she was also preceded by numerous hamsters, cats and dogs while survived by one of her most favorite furry companions, Gates the Golden Retriever.
