

Dolores Hanson, 85, passed away October 13, 2014. Funeral service will be 12 Noon, Friday, October 17, 2014 at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church, Raytown Campus, 5413 Blue Ridge Cutoff, Raytown, MO 64133. Visitations will be held Thursday evening, October 16, 5-7pm, at Floral Hills, and also Friday morning beginning at 11am at the church. She was born to George and Ethel Sweezy on August 7, 1929, near Avilla, MO. One of 6 children, she grew up on a farm, eventually moving to Kansas City, where she met her husband, George. Together, with their four children they took advantage of opportunities to travel the world, residing in England, Wales and Iran. In her later years she enjoyed volunteering as an ESL tutor, Youth Friends, a Salvation Army bell ringer, and participating in mission trips to Haiti, Jamaica and Israel. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister. Her main passions in life were children and animals. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, 5 siblings, and her daughter, Kristin Ann. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George; children and their spouses: Pam and Rick Wheaton, Jan and George Fakoury, Jeff Hanson, and Johanna and Jim Doll; grandchildren: Kristin, Chris, Molly, Hannah, Carter, Lucas and Ethan; Truman the cat. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Memorial tributes may be directed to Children’s Mercy Hospital or Wayside Waifs.
