

Mrs. Connelly was born in Warrensburg Missouri, her family moving to Kansas City, Missouri, when she was a child. She was a graduate of Northeast High School in Kansas City where she and her husband to be William D. Connelly of Independence, Missouri met.
After graduating from high school, she began her first job as a secretary for Kansas City Power and Light and later was an executive secretary to the plant manager at Butler Manufacturing Company in Kansas City. She worked alongside of and retired with her husband after selling their last grocery store, Kentucky Hills Thriftway in Independence. She was known for her friendly manner and treating customers as she would like to be treated.
She was recognized as a civic volunteer in Independence. She was a member of the Historical Society at the Bingham-Waggoner Estate where she gave many years of time in participating in special fund-raising activities to purchase and return original furnishings to the home.
In addition to serving on the Bingham-Waggoner board, The Questers chapter she helped found was instrumental is obtaining 19 grants and raising funds over the years to help preserve, restore, and return original furnishings to the Estate. She and her husband were long time collectors of antique Americana and donated historical items to both the Bingham-Waggoner Estate and the historic 1879 Chicago & Alton railroad station where Mr. Connelly volunteered.
Madelyn A. Connelly was proceeded in death by her mother Dorothy and father Hubert and one brother, Harold, and her husband of 72 years William. She is survived by her son Don and daughter Cindy Ledford; three grandchildren and five great-grandsons.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 4th at D.W. Newcomer’s & Sons Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery. Visitation and a celebration of her life will be held at 9:30 am prior to the service at 10:00am. Graveside will follow. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Salvation Army.
