Margaret “Margie” Rose Klapmeyer, 98, passed away at her home on July 31, 2021. One of eight children, Margie was born July 14, 1923 to Edward, Sr. and Ludmilla Kempinger. She grew up near what is now the Red Bridge area until her parents moved their dairy business to the Ruskin area. In 1941 she met and married her husband of 80 years, Clarence C. Klapmeyer, Jr. “Buzzy”. They had three children.
In addition to being a homemaker, over the course of her working career Margie has driven a school bus; worked in production for Hallmark in Kansas City; performed duties on her parents’ and then her in-laws’ dairy farms; and was a retail associate at the Red Bridge Gift Shop and Feeney’s Hallmark Shop in Olathe, Kansas. A hard worker, Margie managed her vegetable and flower gardens and enjoyed sewing. She also enjoyed cooking and decorating for family gatherings and holidays. She and Buzzy traveled a lot, vacationing in different parts of the country, usually in one of the many campers they owned over the years.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Amelia Willey, Anna Schrick, Joseph Kempinger, Mary Miller Gallagher, Louise Kramer, Edward Kempinger, Jr. and Dorothy Grindinger; and great-grandson Jacob Taylor. She is survived by her husband Clarence “Buzzy” Klapmeyer; children Don Klapmeyer, Jim Klapmeyer and Karen Taylor; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, and because of Margie’s love of the outdoors, the family requests memorial contributions in her name be made to the Missouri Department of Conservation https://mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/2020-04/DonationForm.pdf, or The Arbor Day Foundation https://shop.arborday.org/trees-in-memory.
