

Margaret Eleanor Koontz, age 90, of Raytown, MO, passed away February 15, 2018. Visitation will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, 8240 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64138, on Tuesday, February 20, from 10:00 - 11:00 with Memorial services at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the church or Wayside Waifs. Margaret was born June 19, 1927 in Kansas City, MO to Landis and Willameta McDowell. She graduated from Paseo High School in 1944 and then earned her BA in Business Administration from the University of Kansas in 1948. Margaret worked 37 years for Employers Reinsurance Corporation, retiring in 1992 as an Accounting Supervisor. She became one of the few woman officers in the company at the time. She also took night courses at Rockhurst College and worked for H&R Block during tax season to help support her family. After she retired, she traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe. One of Margaret's favorite destinations was Branson, where she loved the shows. She was an animal lover and had many cats over the years. Margaret was active in Peace Lutheran Church and was the president of the OWLS (Older Wiser Lutheran Seniors) club. She belonged to the Royalaires Toastmistress Club and the Red Hatter's Club. Margaret was also a big fan of the Kansas
City Royals. One of her happiest moments was when the Royals finally made it to the World Series in 1980. She was a tireless worker, fiercely independent, devoted to her family, and raised 3 boys by herself. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Alice Bertram. She is survived by her sons, Gregory Koontz, Stephen (Lisa) Koontz, and David Koontz; nephews, Karl Bertram and Kraig Bertram; 4 grand nephews and nieces; 6 great grand nephews and nieces.
