With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Margaret "Margie" (Schmitz) Strobl, age 96, on September 4, 2023. She was a committed wife, a loving mother of four, a cherished grandmother, and an adored great-grandmother.
Margie was born on April 26, 1927 in St. Joseph, Missouri to the late Frank and Alice Schmitz. She grew up in Kansas City with her seven siblings, Mary, Frank, Bernard, Betty, Vincent, Dorothy, and Bob. Margie was a devoted wife to her late husband, Henry (Hank) Strobl, with whom she met in grade school and shared 53 years of marriage. Margie was a loving mother to four children, John (Diana), Janet Colborne (Bruce), Jim (Melissa), and Jeff (Robin). Margie adored her 7 grandchildren, Jacqueline (Daniel), John Michael (Alyssa), Jennifer (Taylor), Janelle (Marcus), Shannon (Nick), Matthew, and Anna, and her 7 great-grandchildren, Sophia (17), Damien (8), Adeline (6), Jacob (4), Oliva (2), Ember (2), Brooklin (1). She will also be lovingly remembered by her extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews.
Margie began her career in the Navy Reserves, followed by employment for Southwestern Bell. After which, she stayed home to raise her family. Throughout her life, Margie actively participated in the Catholic community, serving at her home parishes, Redemptorist Catholic Church in Kansas City and St. Peter Catholic Church in Stockton, Missouri. She dedicated her time and energy to various organizations and causes, including Meals on Wheels.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish (11300 W 103rd St., Overland Park, KS 66214), where we invite family and friends to celebrate the life of Margie on Friday, September 8th. A rosary and visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor (www.littlesistersofthepoorkansascity.org/donations/) or Catholic Community Hospice in Margie's memory, as her family was immensely grateful for the compassionate end-of-life care provided by both.
May Margie’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her and be loved by her. Please join us in honoring and celebrating a life well lived.
