Margaret “Peg” Louise (Welch) Walter, 87, of Gladstone, MO passed away February 1, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 1:45pm at St. Charles Borromeo, 900 NE Shady Lane Dr., KC MO. Due to the COVID-19 limitations, services will be closed to the public. However, Peg’s funeral will be available through livestream. Peg will be laid to rest following services in Calvary Cemetery in KC MO. A celebration of life will be held in Peg’s honor at a later date, when conditions permit.
Margaret was born in Edina, MO to John and Rose Ann Welch on March 27, 1933. She married Richard J. Walter on May 12, 1956, at Our Lady of Good Counsel church. She worked for Mutual Benefit/Fortis Life for over 20 years in various positions. She was a parishioner for over 62 years at St. Charles Borromeo where she and Rich raised their 7 children and was actively involved in multiple ministries throughout her life. Once widowed in 2004, she was one of the founding members of The Widows of Wisdom (W.O.W), she was actively involved in many ministries, most notably, Bereavement, Befrienders, Respect Life, Rebuilt. She also was passionate about supporting and working in the St. Charles Food Pantry. After the death of her husband, as a way to recognize his value of good education, she started a scholarship program in his honor to help students of St. Charles who are St. Pius bound. Recipients of this scholarship must have demonstrated a commitment to service.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Walter, her parents John and Rose Welch, her beloved brothers and sisters; John Welch, Catherine Walter, Rita Bristow, Aileen Diebold, Tom Welch, William Welch.
Margaret is survived by her brother Robert Welch and her sister Rosie Tiehen and many cherished nieces and nephews. Her children, Terri (David) Butel, Mary (Mick) Koch, Tim (Brett) Walter, Patty (Russ) Wolfe, Larry (Dawn) Walter, Chris (Lori) Walter, John (Donna) Walter. She treasured her sixteen grandchildren, Rebecca, Paul, Michael, Justin, Cody, Brent, Jessica, Katie, Maggi, Hannah, Graham, Emily, Evan, Elliana, Aidan, Jamison as well as her nine great grandchildren, Jackson, Braden, Hudson, Makinley, Emery, Owen, Charolotte, Parker and Mack.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Paul Mauton, Justin Walter, Michael Koch, Cody Wolfe, Brent Walter, Graham Walter Evan Walter, Aidan Walter and Jamison Walter
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: St. Charles Borromeo Church and Bishop Sullivan Center.
The family of Margaret Walter wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of North Kansas City Hospital and Kansas City Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. And last but not least, a big thank you to her St. Charles parish community, especially the “Church Ladies”, for all the love and kindness they have shown her over the years and the important role they served in her life.
