Marianne Oxler, 69, of Leawood, Kansas, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at home on January 18th, 2014, in the company of her family. She was born November 24th, 1944 in Upper Darby, PN. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Margaret Shea, and her brother, Tom Shea. She is survived by her sister and life-long friend, Patty Legenza (Ken). She is loved by her husband of 46 years, Dan Oxler, their five children, Mark Oxler (Megan), Karen Rippey (Ted), Susan Hermes (Sean), Christine Cowan (Wellan), and Kathleen Fendler (Tim), and their ten grandchildren.
Marianne attended St. Therese Little Flower Grade School and Loretto Academy High School, and graduated with honors from Mount Saint Scholastica with a degree in English. Her strong social conscience and belief that all children deserved an education led her first to work as a Catholic Lay volunteer in Oklahoma City. Upon moving to Kansas City, she taught underprivileged youth through the Head Start Program, tutored students and helped develop library resources for Christ the King School and St. Therese Little Flower. She was spiritual to the core and truly lived her Catholic faith as a Curé of Ars parishioner, choir member, and dedicated service member of Our Ladies of Charity and Marillac Auxillary.
Marianne’s kind heart and generosity made her a friend to many, all of whom can remember a thoughtful, handwritten note or a homemade quiche. She shared her love of reading with her book group of forty years. She was an enthusiastic traveler and photographer. She lived a selfless life of devotion to others. Her greatest joy was her family and she will forever be cherished in their memory. Those who knew Marianne will swear they never heard her speak a bad word about anyone.
