Marie Hoffer

Marie E. Hoffer, 91, of Kansas City, MO died Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at St. Joseph Medical Center. Mass of Christian Mass will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.

Marie was born September 17, 1919 in Clarksville, TX to Justin and Ada (Strickland) Grady. Herr vocation was raising her family, and her avocation was the church, and the Cursillo Movement in particular. She started with Fr. Fidelis Albreck, OFM on Texas and continued when she moved to Kansas City in 1963.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband Bates Hoffer in 1991; sister Margaret McAtee; brothers Don Grady and Dale Grady; and granddaughter Cheryl Hoffer. Marie’s survivors include two sons, Bates Hoffer, III and wife Helen of San Antonio, TX and Jay Hoffer and wife Robin of Perryville, MO; daughter Sharon Hoffer of Kansas City, MO; brother Gene Grady and wife Reba of Oklahoma City, OK grandchildren Stephen, John, Gregory, Michael, Katherine, Kevin, step grandchildren Brian, Leah and Kyle; great grandchildren Johanna, Ian, Keegan, Sarah, Dylan. Katharine, Sydney and Kylie; nieces and nephews including Bill McAtee and wife Doris of Plano, TX.
