Marie Stasi Mentrup, beloved daughter, wife, mother, and teacher passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026. She is survived by her daughter, Natalie and son George. Besides being a wonderful wife and mother of two children, Marie’s calling in life was to be a teacher. For over 45 years she taught English, Literature, Religion, and History, to so many students, some of who were children and grandchildren of her early students. Most of her teaching was in the Catholic grade schools, in her words, “for the love of God”. She was a founding teacher at Saint Gabriel and also taught many years at Saint Charles, both in Kansas City north. Her involvement in her students’ lives extended past their school days as she attended many graduations and weddings of former students. She was a driving force behind an annual speech contest that launched many students towards careers in law and business.
She won numerous awards for her teaching, but seeing her students succeed in life and maintain contact with her over the years was the highest award in her mind.
Marie was an engaging person, always interested in others thoughts and lives. She enjoyed being with family, friends, and colleagues. And she loved Beagles.
