Mrs. Marie Bennett Tomich was born 23 October 1917 in Browning Missouri, a small charming town in Northern Missouri. Matt and Marie Tomich were married in 1934 and were married 63 years when Matt died in 1995. Marie died in her sleep 5 September 2020 at Benton house assisted living facility, Raymore Mo. She was one month away from her 103 birthday celebration. Her mother was Mary Neet Bennett and father was Lafayette (Lafe) Bennett. Her mother gave birth to seven children, four reaching adulthood. Her father was a barber working with his father. Her mother came from a close family of ten children. Marie's maternal grand father James Neet was a successful farmer, manufacturer and banker. The Neet family ancestors came from England in the 1700's. Marie's close identification with family was nurtured at an early age by her parents, grand parents and a close relationship with her sisters Louise Bennett Roach, Ruth Bennett Wunsch and brother Carlyle Bennett.

Marie grew up during the great depression, she spoke of the necessity of putting card board in her shoes to make do. She had very fond memories of her high school days in the Browning public high school and her special teacher Mr. Duckworth that taught her to love writing, literature, girls basketball and history. She earned recognition regionally for her signing voice and had the lead in a school play. She organized class reunions the last one at 60 years after graduation which even flew in Mr. Duckworth from California to attend. Mom maintains her life long friendships and can be relied upon to assist family members with a place in her home, gifts and money loans, wonderful letters and sincere loving concern for all in need. Mom's home she called modest but her warm hospitality, excellent cooking and hard work resulted in most meals and events were at her home for decades. Co-workers were invited to her home for dinner routinely. One such long term friend remembered Mom and Dad in his will.

Mom started working outside her home after we moved to the Kansas City area in 1953. She worked for American Hereford, Allstate Insurance, and (VFW), Veterans of foreign wars for several years but decided to go back to school to hone her administrative skills. I marveled at her tenacity, hard work and dedication. She spent hours at her typewriter practicing and learning speed writing skills. She became the administrative assistant to the membership director of the (FCA), Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She retired from FCA in 1982.

Marie has had a lifetime of deep faith and her strong love for our Lord is seen throughout her life. She and her long term friend Debbie Larson worked to offer a Christian women's mentoring program at Blue Ridge Bible Church. Marie is survived by the following relatives: daughter Jody Tomich Goddard and family, Tom Goddard and family,, Brenda Elrod Tomich and family, son David Tomich and family, the above include nine grand children and thirteen great grand children. One niece and two nephews

I truly mourn the passing of my Grandmother Marie Tomich, and will miss her dearly. I also celebrate Marie’s extraordinary life of 102 years and 11 months and remember her kindness and generousity, how much she meant to us all and how many lives she touched. Marie taught us a lot about living life to the fullest, and that makes me proud to be her grandson.
