Marilyn Eileen Hardy, 67 of Kansas City, MO, departed this life on January 13, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 22, 2022 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 5930 Swope Parkway, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the Mass at church. Marilyn was born May 16, 1954 in Kansas City, MO to David E. and Rosemary Hancock Hardy. She was a graduate of Rockhurst University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Bachelors of Science in Accounting. After college, Marilyn worked as a secretary for her cousin Rena Shannon, an accountant at McClure and Ashely Insurance Company and Allied Insurance prior to becoming the secretary to the Dean of Medicine at UMKC for 30 years. Using her degree in music, she played piano, the organ and keyboards as the Music Director at Annunciation Catholic Church until they closed in 1980 where she took her love of GOD to St. Francis Xavier then to St. Louis Parish. In her spare time, Marilyn played piano with her family band, Tut and the Soul Sensation, competing and performing throughout Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Oklahoma. She independently accompanied jazz, blues and gospel artists such as Ida MacBeth. She was very active at St. Louis Catholic Church and the community where she served as the Minister of Music, Baptismal Class Instructor, Eucharist Minister and Liturgist. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver, Fourth Degree where the highest position served being the Vice Grand Lady of the Hymes Sandoval Court 265. The Knights are the largest historically African-American Catholic lay organization in the United States. Marilyn was passionate about service to the children of the church where she was elected to the district officer position of Jr. Daughter Directress for Central States including the performance of a myriad of other duties, especially the one she cherished the most - Jr. Daughter Counselor. She was often called upon to organize events in the Kansas City-St. Joseph Diocese, as well as other dioceses across the country.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David Hardy, Jr. and Eddie Hardy; one grandson, Caprice Hardy.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Hardy; two sons, Winston Hardy (LaShawnda) and Thomas Hardy (Amber); seven brothers, Javan Hardy, Francis (Tut) Hardy (Barbara), Warren Hardy, Leonard Hardy (Reese), Phillip Hardy (Elaine), Clifford Hardy and Mark Hardy; eight sisters, Davetta Hardy, Brenda Baker, Rosina Hardy, Rozemary Hardy, Cynthia Hardy, Jacqueline Soucie (Ron), Sharon Hardy and Karen Groves (Reginald); nine grandchildren, K’Lyn Hardy, Arianna Harrell, Chari Jones, Winston Hardy Jr., Roneisha Hardy, Vivien Hardy, Caliyah Hardy, Zada Hardy, Brianna Murray and Alaina Hardy; four great grandchildren, Caprice Hardy, Jr, Chloe Bryant, Ca’mauri Guyton and Ca’lise Hardy.
