Marjorie Elizabeth Thomas had lived in this area most of her life. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday with her many loving friends and family members. Marjorie was a graduate of the Ursuline Academy in Paola, Kansas. She credited the Ursuline Sisters with providing the education, social and religious training that would later enable her to navigate through life. She attended Pittsburg State Teachers’ College and was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority along with her sisters Doris and Phyllis. It was there that she met the great love of her life, Thomas H. Puckett. After Tom’s service in WWII, they moved to Kansas City where their children, Hunter and Page, were born. Following the death of her husband, she worked as a realtor for Hal Hulen Real Estate. Later in life she had a great friend in Ray Lutjen, whom she held in high esteem. Marjorie was known by friends and family for her enjoyment and skill in cards and other games. She was active in several ongoing bridge groups. Her family considered it a major feat to beat her in any game. For her nieces and nephews, her door was always open and her house was like a second home to many of them and their children. Marjorie remained active in the Catholic Church throughout her life. Her faith was the bedrock of her life and helped her through her struggle with Multiple Sclerosis and the loss of her husband and son.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Caroline Thomas, her husband Thomas Hunter Puckett Sr., her son, Thomas Hunter Puckett Jr., and her sisters, Doris Catherine Casterman and Phyllis Manning. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Page Puckett; her grandsons, Thomas Puckett and Austin Puckett; her daughter-in- law, Cynthia Puckett. Also surviving are her nephews John Casterman (Carol) and Tom Manning (Gay) and her nieces, Julie Casterman Newlin (John), Leslie Casterman Cates (Kevin), and Denys Manning Branham (Brent) as well as their children and grandchildren. Marjorie’s small stature belied the greatness of her character: her intelligence, charm, perseverance and faith. For many of her loved ones, her passing marks the end of a generation. She will be greatly missed.
