Marjorie J. "Marge" Van Wye

Marjorie J. "Marge" Van Wye, 89, passed to her permanent home with Jesus on April 17, 2023. Marge was 89 years old and had lived in Lee's Summit, MO for 32 years. She was born on November 14, 1933 to Henry and Velma (Tharp) Woodward of Osawatomie, Kansas. Her family moved to Kansas City, MO in

1938. She was invited by friends and attended Bales Baptist Church in her teens and graduated from Northeast High School in I951. After graduation she became a model and later traveled around the Midwest teaching modeling. She worked in various clerical and accounts payable positions over the years before and after raising her family. She met and married Walter L. Van Wye, Sr. on March 30, 1957. They enjoyed traveling and spent much time in Colorado. They were just 2 weeks short of celebrating 63 years of marriage before Walter passed away in March of 2020.

Marge was a student of the scriptures and devoted many hours preparing for her ladies bible study class that she taught for years in several churches. She was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Lee's Summit. Marge always made her faith and family a priority. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend while excelling in cooking, sewing and knitting.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Alene Lee, Delores Bartlett, and Helen Lester; and husband, Walter.

She is survived by her children, W. Lee Van Wye, Jr., Karen Cox (Mark), and Paul Van Wye. She also has 2 grandchildren that she dearly loved, Katie Barrios (Joseph) and Andrew Cox. Marge will be missed by her family, friends and neighbors, but we are comforted to know that she heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant" when she arrived.

A visitation for Marjorie will be held Monday, April 24, 2023 from 1-2 PM, service 2 PM, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.
