Mark grew up in Raytown, Missouri. He went to Raytown High School and attended Missouri State University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Science and Education. He spent most of his career working for Ryder Trucking and Bandag within the transportation industry. Mark and his family moved multiple times in his career, with his final move back to Kansas City 18 years ago.
Mark married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Jody Grubaugh Abbott in 1975. They were blessed with two children, Erin Abbott LaBounty and Gavin Abbott. He was so proud of Erin and Gavin and was a vocal supporter of both his children’s and his grandchildren’s accomplishments, sports and events.
Mark treasured the time he spent with Jody, and they traveled extensively together. He cherished the holidays, when he and Jody brought family and close friends together to celebrate in their home. He greatly enjoyed time with family and friends at their Table Rock Lake house and took great pleasure during his retirement, making several close friends on the golf course at The Country Club of Leawood.
Mark had a big heart, was a loyal friend, and thoroughly enjoyed a good laugh. He will be greatly missed and leaves us with many wonderful smiles and memories of the great joy he took in living.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Virginia Abbott. He leaves behind his wife, Jody Grubaugh Abbott, children, Erin Abbott LaBounty and Gavin Wood Abbott, wife Rebeka and grandchildren, Mia LaBounty, Owen Abbott, and Gemma Abbott. He also leaves his brother, Fred Abbott, wife Vickie, niece Andrea Abbott Sanchez, husband Danny, and his sister-in-law Mindy McDaniel, and niece Lacey McDaniel and her wife, Ursula.
