A Visitation will be held from 9:00am to 11:00am on Friday, August 2nd followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Casual attire is preferred.
Mark was born on August 9, 1950 in Salina, Kansas to Alma and Elmer Gerhardt. Mark attended Kansas State University where he received his MBA in accounting. Mark began his accounting career at Paul Steele in Colby, Kansas. He made his way back to Salina where he worked for Kennedy & Coe. Mark later moved to Kansas City working for McDonald, Napshin & Shedd. In 1981 he began his own accounting firm, Mark E. Gerhardt, Chartered, where he built his business and retained many clients over thirty-seven plus years of practice. He retired from his tax practice in November of 2018, but continued to service small business clients.
Mark had a passion for his family & had many loyal friends. His favorite pastime was riding his Harley with his wife Kathy. Mark was very socially active in the community. He was the Charter President of the Overland Park Sertoma Club in which he was involved in many community service activities throughout the years. Mark was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, and was a great man of faith.
Mark was preceded in death by his father and mother Elmer & Alma Gerhardt. Mark is survived by his wife Kathy and daughters Kim (Jason & grandchildren Jaymes, Jayden & Jaymilynne) Gerhardt-Whiddon, Kelly (Ryan & grandchild Beckett) Good, Jenny (Mat) Edwards. He is also survived by his brother Brian (Robin), sister Pam (Bob) Knott, sister in-law Karen (Mark) Bruns, mother-in-law Dixie Hill and many nieces and nephews. In addition, his loyal furry companion Marley the goldendoodle.
