Mark Douglas McGrew, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 31st, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on March 3rd, 1949, Mark lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and a deep, unwavering love for his family.
Known affectionately as “Pop,” Mark was the kind of man you could always count on. He was dependable to his core, worked hard, and took care of the people around him without ever asking for recognition. His generosity was second nature, willing to give the shirt off his own back if it meant helping someone else.
Mark spent much of his life working in refrigeration, first running his family’s company before eventually starting out on his own, then finishing his career with Hussmann. He took great pride in his work ethic, but even more in the life he built for his family. No matter how hard he worked, he always made time for the people he loved.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While he rarely spoke about his time in service, it was a part of his life that reflected his quiet strength and resilience.
Mark shared a beautiful and unwavering love with his wife, Becky. Married for 56 years, they built a partnership built on loyalty, support, and deep devotion to one another. Together, they created a life centered around family, rarely missing a moment that mattered. Whether it was a baseball game, volleyball tournament, wrestling match, or choir event, Mark was always there, proudly supporting his children and grandchildren from the sidelines. He cherished those moments just as much as the quiet ones, often finding joy out on the golf course, hunting, or fishing.
More than anything, Mark will be remembered for his heart. He had a way of making people feel taken care of. Pops would never let you leave without a hug, and that’s something his family and friends will carry with them forever.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Becky; his son Paul (Jenny); his grandchildren Aubrey (Shannon) and Seth; his great-grandchildren Luna and Solana; his nephew BJ (Kara); his great-nephews Brody, Austin, and Shamus; and a large circle of family and friends who meant the world to him, especially his dear friends from Southeast High School and the notorious Taco Tuesday group.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Carrie and grandson Tyler; his parents Lester and Gloria; his siblings Les (Carol), Danny, Steve, Linda, Colleen; and many other loved ones.
Mark will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, strength, and love will live on in everyone who knew him.
