

Mark Alan Shipman passed away on Monday, October 5, 2009. Mark was born in Crete, Nebraska on February 21, 1951 to Robert H. and JoAnn Shipman. His family moved to Marysville, Kansas early in Mark’s childhood. After growing up in Marysville, Mark adventured to the big city to attend college at UMKC where he graduated, majoring in Speech and Journalism. Mark’s “gift for gab” made him a popular figure in the restaurant industry, specifically, behind the bar. As a bartender for over 25 years, Mark never met a customer he didn’t listen to, or talk to, about anything and everything. Mark loved most being with his family; fishing, cooking, cycling; and talking about any kind of sports. During the past 20 years, his passion was talking about his three children, and every one of their triumphs and tribulations.Mark is preceded in death by his mother, JoAnn Shipman. Mark leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Joyce M. Shipman; three extraordinary children, Anna, Jeff, and John, all of the home; his father, Robert H. Shipman, Marysville, KS; his brother, Robert H. Shipman, Jr., Stillwell, KS; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces, nephews and great -nieces and nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 10, at McGilley Midtown Chapel, where friends may gather from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.
