Martha Geraldine "Gerry" Kunard

Martha Geraldine "Gerry" Weber Kunard, 92, of Belton, MO passed away on February 23, 2023. She was born September 24, 1930, to Carl and Alma (Lange) Weber in a farmhouse between Urich, MO and Creighton, MO. She was an only child, attended 8 grades at Oak Grove School in Creighton, MO, and graduated from Creighton, MO High School May, 1947, where she played basketball all four years. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Trinity Lutheran Church, Creighton, MO. On June 7, 1947, she married Leo Everett Kunard. To this union, four children were born: Patricia, Darrell, Joyce and Denise. They lived on farms near Creighton, MO until 1959, and moved to Lee’s Summit, MO on December 26, 1959. Gerry stayed at home, did babysitting, and took in ironing. She later worked at Avon Products from 1968-1985, and at Unity Village from 1987-1991. Gerry and Leo lived in Lee’s Summit, MO and the area for many years and spent many winters in southern Texas in their travel trailer. They had property at Lake Arrowhead in Holt, MO for many years, spending weekends and summers there. They moved to Beautiful Savior Home in Belton, MO in December, 2017.

Gerry loved to crochet and knit, loved playing cards, Bingo, Yahtzee, and crossword puzzles. She was an avid KC Royals fan. She and Leo loved going to garage sales and visiting with people. They both enjoyed collecting clocks and miniature tea sets. Gerry had a great sense of humor and loved to hear funny jokes.

She is survived by Patricia Bechel, Darrell (Joyce) Kunard, Joyce Lassiter, and Denise (Kelly) Lees; grandchildren Brian (Trina) Lassiter, Kristin Kunard, and Leah Kunard; great grandchildren Austin Lassiter and Morgan Lassiter. Her family was the joy of her life and she loved them all with all her heart. She is also survived by several cousins and very special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo in 2018, son-in-law Frank Bechel in 2022, and her parents Carl and Alma Weber.

A Visitation for Gerry will be held Thursday, March 2nd, 2023 from 10:00 - 10:30 AM at St. Matthew Lutheran Church (700 NE Chipman Rd, Lee's Summit, MO 64063). The funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM followed by a procession to the graveside committal at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens (25203 E 50 Hwy, Lee's Summit, MO 64086).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church in memory of Gerry Kunard. Gerry and Leo were charter members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
