Mary Jane Anderson

Mary Jane Anderson 97 of Olathe, Kansas passed away peacefully on December 22, 2015. Mary Jane lived all of her life in the Kansas City area and graduated from Westport High. She was very active with her children’s schools, serving as president of the PTA in the Center school district. She and her husband Bob dedicated their lives to the Presbyterian Church, starting and serving as charter members of Ward Parkway Presbyterian church, John Knox Kirk and The Presbyterian Church of Stanley. Mary Jane also worked in the Heartland Presbytery office for 12 years. Prior to that, she was a manager with the Adler’s department stores in Kansas City for 10 years. A loyal Chiefs and Royals fan, she and Bob had season tickets for many years and enjoyed attending the games and watching them for many years, especially this past year when the Royals won the World Series.

Mary Jane enjoyed traveling with Bob and their children all over the world. Europe, Canada, Mexico and Southeast Asia were many of their destinations along with Hawaii. Travel in the U.S. was her favorite, especially the many trips to New England to enjoy the fall foliage and their annual trips to Sanibel Island, Florida with her kids and grandchildren. Her favorite pastime in Sanibel was walking on the beach and picking up seashells. She also enjoyed gardening all thru her life.

Her family and many friends will miss her warm smile and great sense of humor. Mary Jane and Bob, the love of her life, would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day next February.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Alyce Miller and by her brother William Miller. She is survived by her husband Robert R. “Bob” Anderson of the home, Aberdeen Village in Olathe, Kansas. She is also survived by her four children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren: Gary Anderson of San Antonio, Texas and his children Susan Avivi (Avishai), Michelle Anderson, Jordan Anderson; Jane Axon of Overland Park, Kansas, and her children Stacy Axon and Brad Axon (Nicole); Mary Ferro of Scottsdale, Arizona, and her children, Jill Ferro and Greg Ferro (Tiffany); and Chip Anderson (Sally) of Loch Lloyd, Missouri and their children Jennifer New (Brandon) and Hunter Anderson (Andrea).

A celebration of life reception will be held on Friday, January 1st, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Aberdeen Village, 17500 West 119th Street, Olathe, Kansas 66061.
