She was born January 21, 1936, in Jefferson City, Missouri, and raised there by loving grandparents. Mary Ann graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1953 and then earned her associates degree at Jefferson City Junior College in 1955. Soon after graduation, she put her skills to work as a secretary at the Missouri Supreme Court.
During high school, this shy, scholarly girl caught the eye of another Jefferson City native, William "Bill" Grubb. The two were married at First Methodist Church in Jefferson City on June 10, 1956. Mary Ann and Bill relocated several times before settling in the Kansas City area in the early 1980s.
With their son Chris in tow, Mary Ann and Bill made many trips to Colorado in their VW camper. Mary Ann was always willing to carry a large backpack and could prepare a meal over a campfire as efficiently as she could in her own kitchen. Mary Ann was quite a gardener and especially enjoyed wild flowers and growing herbs commercially on their rural Johnson County property. Her beautiful gardens were featured in local and national magazines including Country Home's Country- Gardens and Kansas City- Home Design. Always busy with her hands, Mary Ann used her sewing skills to adorn their house. Her framed cross stitch works could be found in nearly every room.
Chris preceded her in death but Bill is left to cherish her memory. A quiet and lovely lady, who loved to laugh, Mary Ann was dear to her close friends. She was like a parent and a grandmother to some very blessed families.
A private burial service will take place at Mt Moriah Cemetery with Pastor Howard Johnson of Leawood United Methodist Church officiating.
