Mary Jo Bowman, 85, passed away February 25, 2022. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Friday, March 4 at Curé of Ars Catholic Church, Leawood, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Business Administration Scholarship Fund in the name of Mary, Joe and Mary Jo Bowman, c/o Avila University, 11901 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO 64145.
Mary Jo was born January 22, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri to Mary (Phelan) and Joe Bowman. She attended Lillis High School and obtained a BA Degree from The College of St. Teresa (now Avila University). Mary Jo spent 21 years as a meeting planner and trade association administrator for the Alfalfa Dehydrators Association and 18 years with Martin Fromm & Associates, as executive administrator of The Diamond Council of America and the American Assn. Of Managing General Agents. Upon retirement in 2001, she continued as a consultant for AAMGA for several years.
Mary Jo was a member of Curé of Ars Catholic Church, Ladies of Charity, American Association of University Women, the National Honor Society and was included in the “Who’s Who in Catholic High Schools”. During her employment with MF&A, she was honored as “Employee of the Year” and was the recipient of the “Martin and Dorothy Fromm” award for excellence.
Mary Jo was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge, dancing, water exercises and visits to the casinos. As the daughter of a major league baseball player, she traveled extensively as a child, and continued as an adult in her job and on vacation trips to Europe, the Orient and the Holy Land.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Joe Bowman of Leawood, Kansas and is survived by her cousins, Dana Rzepka, Richard Bowman, Mathy Gieseke, Milady Peters, Ted Bowman, Christine White, Cecelia Coppenbarger and Tim Bowman.
