

Mary Emma (Plovie) Coleman, 88, passed away October 19, 2012. The service and visitation will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1357 NE 42nd Terr, Kansas City, MO 64116 on Tuesday, October 23rd at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM; burial in East Slope Cemetery.
Mary was born August 29, 1924 in Turner, KS to Rene & Irma Plovie. She grew up in the “Belgium Bottoms”. She married her beloved Stanley in 1945 who passed away in 1975.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Stanley; parents Rene & Irma Plovie; and brother Felix Plovie. She, along with her sister Margaret, were the first residents at Northgate Village, NKC. They were affectionately referred to as “M&M”. She retired from the North Kansas City School District after 15 years at Winnetonka High School. She even had a football halftime dedicated to her. She loved vegetable gardening, volunteer work at the Northland Thrift Shop and playing bingo at the Northland Community Center with her friends. She is a long time member of St. Patrick Church, where she was married and made her first communion. She was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and the NKC Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughter Patti Starks & husband Bill; daughter Karen Cunningham and husband Mike, sisters Margaret Sercer & Elizabeth Ryan and sister-in-Law Dorothy Ribble.
The family wishes to thank all of her friends at Northgate Village for their visits and support. The family would also like to thank Dr. Mark Gordon for the care and compassion shown to Mary and the family. Special thanks to Father Justin Hoye for his visits and prayers.
