Mary I. De La Torre, 89, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away June 15, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 23, from 6-8 pm at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO, 64145. The Rosary will be prayed at 7 pm. The Mass of Catholic Burial will be Thursday, June 24 at 11 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 901 Avenida Cesar E. Chavez, Kansas City, MO, 64108. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Raytown, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests Masses to be said in Mary’s memory.
Mary was born on April 25, 1932 to Cruz (Moreno) Garcia and Jesus Manuel Flores. Mary grew up in the westside area of Kansas City, MO. On March 4, 1955, she married Phillip De La Torre of Madison, Kansas and they made their family home in the southside of Kansas City, MO. Mary retired from Allied Signal after many years of employment. Her greatest accomplishments were her children.
Mary was preceded in death by: her parents; her son Tomas Paul De La Torre II; her brothers Frank, Reuben, and Joe Garcia and Jesse and Tony Flores; her sisters Amparo (Garcia) Bernal and Cruz (Garcia) Loya; and her sister-in-law Albina Garcia. She is survived by: her husband Phillip De La Torre; her children Rose Marie Cruz De La Torre Hernadez, Diana De La Torre (Philip) Marquez, son Johnny De La Torre; her sister Soccoro (Charlie) Estevez; grandchildren Dawn Barnett, Phillip Burnam, Angelo (Leonae) De La Torre, Renea De La Torre, Kayla De La Torre, Travis Torres, Jake (Jenelle) De La Torre, Steven “Harry” (Danielle) Cornwall, Ashley (L.R.) Taecknes-Seabaugh; 19 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Jeff Porter, “brother from another mother” also survives as well as many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Mary was a woman of deep faith and of love for her family where roots ran deep.
