Mary Jane Turnley was born in Plain Dealing, Louisiana to Maggie Emma (Odom) and Jack Earl Turnley on August 11, 1931. Tragically, her father was killed in a lightning strike when she was just five years old, but her mother was determined to raise and educate her two daughters. Maggie built a boarding house in Ruston, Louisiana near the campus of Louisiana Tech and boarded students for the next ten years, long enough to raise her daughters and afford them a college education. Mary Jane enjoyed a wonderful childhood in this college town and taught elementary school after receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Education. She met Paul Morgan at Tech and they married on June 6, 1953. Their daughters were born and grew up as they moved back and forth between Louisiana and Texas, to Tulsa, Oklahoma then Chicago, Illinois, back to Texas and Oklahoma. Finally settling in Leawood Kansas, Jane and Paul became members of Colonial Presbyterian Church and the Prime Timers Sunday School class. Mary Jane also taught Preschool at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, and loved playing bridge, hosting family and friends in her home, creating counted cross-stitch and needlepoint masterpieces, loving and serving her family.
She leaves behind her husband, Paul Morgan; daughters: Paula Minnich (Craig), Stacy Crow, Lisa Brockman (Ken); grandsons: Matthew Minnich (Debra), Michael Brockman (Christy), Mark Minnich, Bryan Crow, Mitchell Crow (Kristin), Steven Brockman (Krystal); great-grandsons: Wyatt Brockman, Jackson McManus, Eli Brockman, Max Brockman, Jason Minnich, Alexander Minnich; great-granddaughter: Scout Brockman; sister, Dorothy Stefen; nephew, Jack Humphrey (Bonnie). She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Craig Crow. We love her dearly and miss her terribly.
