My Grandma Mary was always one of my best friends. She was my movie buddy, someone who loved films as much as I did. Our favorite movies to watch were Pretty Woman, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and  Beetlejuice. Whether we went to the movie theater or watched movies at her house, we always made sure to eat popcorn; Grandma Mary loved the burnt kernels, much to my disgust. I remember as a kid saying, “Grandma, burnt popcorn is so gross!” She’d smile and say, “Well that just means I don’t have to share.”  Grandma Mary always made me feel loved, respected and safe. When I was six, she bought me a talking Roger Rabbit doll from the toy store, right after we watched the movie opening weekend. And I’m proud to say I still have that doll, proudly displayed on my bookshelf. It means the world to me…just like Grandma Mary. I love her so much and miss her, think of her, and value her every day. Rest in peace, Mary. We always love you! ❤️

Still miss you Mama.  You were the best mother in the world, and we will always love you.

I was 6 years old and woke up one night because I heard my Mama crying in the dining room, sitting with her checkbook and a stack of bills  before her.  It scared me because I had never seen her afraid - she was a rock to me and my sister.

I asked her “ Are we poor?”  She put her arms around me and said “No, we’re just broke,”    Because Mom ws smiling, all was welll in my mind.

Mom  always made everything okay- she’s a true hero to  me and my  little sister.  Love you Mary Elizabeth and Grandma— so happy you are together now.

I met Mary 50 years ago, when I was a young woman, newly arrived in Kansas City, MO. She worked at Gilbert-Magill Company, which is where I found a job. She was so smart, beautiful and kind. She was always very good to me.  When I planned to be married in June of 1973, Mary hosted a bridal shower for me in her home.  I have so many fond memories of this very special lady. My deepest condolences to her family, especially her daughters. She loved them so much and was very proud of them and her grandchildren. It is so hard to lose one's mother - many prayers for comfort for your grieving hearts. 

Although Mary was my aunt, we were so close in age that I knew her simply as "Mary."  She was a fun=loving child, always ready to seek out small adventures.  She was observant, ready to help others who needed it.  She cared deeply for those close to her, especially her mother and her children.  My wife, Margaret, and I would miss seeing her for years but she was always eager to update us on her children and grandchildren.  She loved and was loved by all who knew her.
