After graduation, Mary went on to work for Butler Manufacturing Co. where she met her future husband, Don Ragsdale.

Don & Mary were married at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church on August 5, 1950. She was very active in both, St. Stephen’s school and church. Mary also volunteered for Meals-On-Wheels Program, Our Dear Lord Shut-in Program, a Judge in many Kansas City elections, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a volunteer at the Sisters of St. Francis in Independence, MO.

In 1982, along with Mary’s mother, Ann Haffey, they moved to Independence, MO where they joined Nativity of Mary Parish and became very active parishioners. Mary was a member of the Altar Society, the Little Parish Group and the funeral dinner committee. She volunteered at Nativity of Mary School, where she was known as “Art Grandma”. In 2007, Mary moved to Foxwood Springs Retirement Community and became a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Lee’s Summit, MO.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Don Ragsdale in 1993; her parents, Con Haffey (1981) and Ann Haffey (1983) and her sister, Anna Margaret Haffey (1946). Mary’s memory will be cherished by her children and their spouses, Mary Ann Jonas (Matt) of Lee’s Summit, MO and Mike Ragsdale (Missy) of Lee’s Summit, MO. Mary was very proud of her Irish heritage. She and Don traveled to Ireland many times. She was a good friend to many…always willing to listen…a kind and gentle soul. Our family was blessed to have had her in our lives. She will be dearly missed by many.
