She leaves two daughters; Dr. Jan Johnson and Dana Segur and her husband Paul, her grandson Jeff Johnson and his wife Susan, as well as four great-grandchildren; Samantha, Jessica, Alexis and Nicholas. Mary Frances was born on July 14, 1921, in Kansas City, Missouri to her parents, Thomas Orr and Ada Laughlin Thornton, and had one sister, Dorothy Orr Shields. Her mother, Ada Thornton, who by her faith in God and example, helped shape the family’s love of Jesus Christ. Mary Frances was married to Robert Segur in the backyard of her parents’ home in 1947. She lost her husband Bob in 2007. They would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on August 28, 2010. Mary Frances graduated from Central High School in 1938 at the age of 17. She then attended Jane Hayes Gates Art School, and afterward U.M.K.C. During her lifetime, she was a commercial artist at Poindexter’s and Woolf Brothers, an administrative secretary for the Federal Government, and also served as the assistant to the President of the Power & Light Company. Mary Frances was devoted to her family and friends who were dear to her. Her love, grace and beauty were qualities that she possessed in abundance. She loved life to the fullest, was multi-talented in art and music, loved to travel, and enjoyed being active. She was a member of Village Presbyterian Church, and attended Colonial Presbyterian Church as well for many years. Her daughters, Jan and Dana, and grandson Jeff, believe her greatest accomplishments were her grace, strength, faith, dignity and her unfaltering and unfailing love to them throughout her life, and for that they are forever grateful.
