Mary Lue Vick

Visitation will be on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Floral Hills Chapel, 7000 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City, MO 64133 The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 10:00 am followed immediately by graveside services also at Floral Hills Cemetery.

Mary Lue Baker was born in Kansas City, MO on September 26, 1929, to Lawrence D. Baker and Edna Evelyn Moore. She was the youngest of five children. The unusual spelling of her middle name was a combination of both of her grandmother’s names. Mary Harris Baker and Luella Moore.

At approximately the age of 14, she and a friend went to the movies. There, she met an usher. He was a very tall, handsome boy with curly black hair and blue eyes. His name was Bill Vick. They were married 4 years later in 1948. Bill became a Kansas City, MO police officer in 1950. Mary Lue worked at the Gas Company until she gave birth to their daughter, Barbara Lue in 1952. Later in 1955, their second daughter Beverly Sue was born.

Around 1975, Mary Lue was hired as a legal secretary at the law firm of Lathrop & Norquist for the two managing partners. Lathrop & Norquist later became Lathrop & Gage. She remained there until she retired.

In the 1960’s, Mary Lue joined the American Business Women's Association, Liberty Belle Chapter. There, she met her most cherished lifelong friends. The Liberty Belles are all retired now, and only have social dinners, no more meetings or elections or fundraisers.

Mary Lue Vick was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Bill in 2006 after 58 years of marriage. Her grandson-in-law Patrick O’Brien in 2024 and her grandson Darren Putman in 2025. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Vick and Beverly Moennig (Mark). Her granddaughters Diana Wise (Brian), Samantha O’Brien and Laura Baldwin (Burke). Five great grandchildren Danica and Garrett Wise, Avery and Emmett Baldwin and Evelyn O’Brien. She will be deeply missed, and long remembered.
