

Mary Ellen Ward, 95, of Napton, MO passed away on December 8th, 2020 in Independence, MO. Born on August 12th, 1925 in Napton, MO; daughter of Emmit and Freda Davis. She married William Lincoln Mead Ward on August 26th, 1951 in Napton, MO. Mary was employed by the Department of Education as a school teacher, educating various grades from elementary to high school. She retired in 1987, but continued to substitute teach for many years and worked at The Jones Store until the store moved out of the Blue Ridge Mall (Independence, MO).
She enjoyed: jigsaw puzzles, reading her Bible and memorizing verses, praying, crossword puzzles, watching shows like The Andy Griffith Show and The Waltons, and movies like Shirley Temple and My Fair Lady. She enjoyed playing games like Rummikub and SkipBo, and spending time with or talking to all of her loved ones.
She is survived by her daughters Charlene Patterson and Carol Bilodeau, her sisters Ruby Neff and Mabel Davis, and her grandchildren: Joshua Patterson, Daniel Griffis, Aaron Griffis, Caleb Griffis, Adam Griffis, Sharéa Vochatzer, and Jacob Vochatzer. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces and a few great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Emmit and Freda Davis, her husband William Ward, her grandson Joseph Patterson, her nephew Nelson Lee Davis, and her brother Ralph Davis. Funeral proceedings will be at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home on Tuesday December 15th, 2020. The visitation is at 1pm (limit of 10 people at a time due to COVID) and the graveside service is at 2pm, please bring a lawn chair and dress warm for the outside service which has no number limit but to social distance and wear masks.
