Mary Ellen Watterson

Mary Ellen (Drexler) Watterson, 87, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012. She was born the daughter of John Drexler and Mary Ellen (Makepeace) Drexler on October 30, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Survivors include her loving husband of 69 years, Carl Watterson; four children, Don Watterson (Fran); Carl Watterson (Shirley); Wanda Stegmaier (Bernie); and Candy Wiedenmann Lyles (Tony Albertson); eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen enjoyed competitive roller skating in her younger years. She also enjoyed quilting and bowling as hobbies. Many families considered her a second mom and grandma, as she was a caring and devoted day-care provider for numerous years.

The family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff at Indian Creek Health Care for their kindness and exceptional care of Mary Ellen.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 7th, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., with burial following in Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Indian Creek Health Care Alzheimer’s Unit, 6515 West 103rd Street, Overland Park, KS, 66212.
