Mavis E. (Ewing) Gippner, 74, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away on April 16, 2021 from Pancreatic Cancer. Mavis was born in Kansas City to her parents, Ernest and Vera Ewing. She married Larry Simmons and had two sons, Brian and Toby.
Mavis had an active life which included nearly 40 years of volunteer service at Missouri Town in 1855. She was the leader and caller for the Missouri Town Dancers. She retired from Walmart as a Department Supervisor after 20 years. She had also become an Election Judge Supervisor for many years. She married Mick Gippner in 1996 and they taught Ballroom Dance for 20 years. Mavis and Mick had a wonderful life together and took many vacations including cruises to Hawaii, Alaska, many Caribbean Islands, and the Panama Canal.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Mavis is survived by her husband, Mick Gippner; two sisters, Jean Hyde and Janell Gramlich; two sons, Brian and Toby Simmons; and grandson, Isaiah Simmons.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, April 23, at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO. On Saturday there will be a Celebration of Life and luncheon from 11 AM – 3 PM at the Historic Woods Chapel at 1040 NE Woods Chapel Rd, in Lee’s Summit.
Any donations/contributions will go towards a tree to be planted in Mavis’s Honor at either Woods Chapel or Missouri Town, or both.
