Maxie Bernard Sloan, 97, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 3, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Burial with full Military Honors at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Maxie was born November 25, 1916 in Polo, MO, son of Thomas J. and Laura E. (Cannon) Sloan. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a member of the Elks Lodge #1402 in McAllen, TX for 26 years, and an East Gate Masonic Lodge member. Maxie had worked as a truck driver, retiring to Mission, TX.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Maribelle (Shoop) Sloan and his son Thomas V. Sloan. Maxie is survived by nieces Kendra Nichols (Grant), Lisa Forcier (Michael); nephews Greg Sloan (Kathy), Raymond Bestgen (Laurie), and Mark Sloan (Lisa); and extended family.
Maxie will be greatly missed. He never knew a stranger and was a friend to all.
