Mayo Barnes was born Mayo Belle Curdis on January 20, 1926 to Lloyd Everett Curdis and Kathryn Agnes Curdis (nee Noyes) in Creek County, Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was the 3rd of 4 children. All of her siblings have preceded her in death.
In 1947 she married Vincent Emmett Hogan and they settled in the greater Kansas City area. In the next 5 years they had a son, Michael and daughter, Kathleen. In 1968 Mayo fell in love with and later married Harold Stanley Barnes. Mayo was widowed in Oct. of 2014 when Hal also preceded her in death.
Mayo's daughter Kathleen provided her with 4 grandchildren; Shannon, Joshua, Joel and Danielle. Her grandchildren gave her 7 great-grandchildren; Emily (deceased) Matthew, Ethan, Tanner, Violet, Anthony and Jasper.
Mayo loved being social and loved to entertain! She preferred to be surrounded by friends and family and was always ready to have a cocktail or beer and a good steak with them. She loved golf, waterskiing, playing cards and board games, dancing, gardening, crewel stitchery and knitting. She held the firm belief that a woman is never finished dressing until her hair is properly done and her jewelry is on and matching......even if you are just going to the swimming pool!
In 2017 Mayo began a regular study of the bible with Dorothy Vance who is one of Jehovah's Witnesses in the Redbrige Congregation. While she did not dedicate herself and get baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses she said that she held the belief in a resurrection to the earth where she could live forever in perfect health.
