Melvin Richard Alport, 88, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018, at KC Hospice House in Kansas City. He was born July 2, 1929, in Kansas City. He was a graduate of Southwest High School (1946) and the University of Missouri. He enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956.
In June of 1957 he married Mildred M. (Smith) Combs and celebrated 56 years of marriage before her passing in 2013. After his retirement from BMA, he and Mildred traveled the world. Dick loved the Missouri Tigers, Chiefs and Royals. He was an avid golfer and loved to play bridge.
He was loving, kind, compassionate, and always tried to do what was right. He loved family game nights playing strategic board games.
Preceding him in death were his parents, David and Anna Alport, sister Betty Epstein, and wife Mildred. Survivors include his daughter Corrine Smith (Howard); grandchildren Lauren Zolton (Mark), Justin Smith (Aleyda), Howard Smith III; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cremation & interment at Mount Moriah. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a future date.
