Melvin J. Thompson, 95, Kansas City North, passed away April 18, 2012 at the Riverside Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be 12:30 PM Friday, April 20th at the McGilley Antioch Chapel where a visitation will begin at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Melvin was born January 30, 1917 in Kansas City, MO. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the South Pacific from 1941-1945 and obtained the rank of Sergeant. During the war he was awarded the Bronze Star and numerous other campaign and service awards. Melvin worked for the Kansas City Terminal Railroad for 40 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol in 2007 and a son, David H. Gaiser in 1994.
Survivors include a son Robert S. (Nancy) Gaiser; brother, Ted Thompson; grandchildren, Robert M. (Sherri) Gaiser, Eric S. (fiancé Alisha Bell) Gaiser, and Lisa L. Johnston; and great grandchildren, Cody, Matthew, and Hanna Johnston, and Eris Bell.
