Our mother, Mercedes E. Amado-Ledo, 87, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on May 24, 2013, due to complications of heart disease. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28 at Church of the Ascension, 9510 West 127th St., Overland Park, KS. Private burial in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, where she received excellent care in her final days.Mercedes was born December 7, 1925 in Havana, Cuba. She attended Catholic schools and earned a degree in Commerce (bookkeeping), working for the Cuban Medical Association. She married the late David Enrique Amado-Ledo M.D. on December 17, 1948 and assisted him with his medical practice over the years. After much hardship she arrived in the United States in 1966 and became a naturalized citizen in 1971.She was always highly dedicated to rearing her two children, daughter Mercy and son Henry, supporting and encouraging them in higher learning and eventual medical careers. Blessed with an even temperament and a kind nature, she was always available to offer a listening ear and extend wise advice in adverse circumstances. She was very sociable and willing to help others, with a sweet disposition and unassuming modesty about her own accomplishments. In brief, she was much loved by all who have known her.She was preceded in death by her husband Enrique, her mother Mercedes, and her father Aurelio, as well as her brother Aurelito who died in his youth. Her survivors are her daughter Mercedes C. Amado M.D., pediatric allergist in Kansas City, and her son Henry Amado M.D., psychiatrist in San Diego.
