

Merna was devoted wife and outspoken woman, and she carried those qualities with her throughout a life marked by steady work, deep family commitment, and meaningful community involvement.
Merna Delane Jefferson-Graham was born in Martinsville, Missouri to Curtis and Jessie (Van Houtan) Graham on March 5, 1937. Growing up on the family farm, she learned the value of hard work early as she helped tend to the everyday tasks around the barn. She attended Martinsville High School, where she enjoyed playing basketball. After graduating, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri and worked for Phillips Petroleum.
While working at Phillips Petroleum, Merna met Earl Robert Jefferson, and they were married in 1961. They celebrated 55 years of marriage until his passing in 2016. She was devoted to her family, raising their daughter in Raytown, Missouri. She was active in the PTA and other school organizations.
Merna served on the board of Rice-Tremonti and was active in getting the home listed with the National Historic Registry. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).
Merna was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Robert Jefferson; her parents, Curtis and Jessie Graham; and her sister, Dorlene Graham.
Merna is survived by her daughter, Sherilyn Rowe (Robert); her two grandchildren, Nick and Joe Henshaw; her sister, Brenda Hartman; and two nephews, Brad and Brett Hartman.
Private Family Services will be held at a later date.
