

Michael Francis McClain, 83, Leawood, KS passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 at Menorah Medical Center surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 AM Tuesday, October 2 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8500 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be Monday, October 1 at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO from 4-8 PM, where the rosary will be prayed at 4 PM. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. The family suggests contributions be made to Little Sisters of the Poor or Sister Servants of Mary.
Mike was born March 27, 1929 in Kansas City, KS, the son of Raymond McClain and Julia McClain (Maloney). He attended St. Rosa Lima Grade School and Bishop Ward High School. At the age of 17, Mike was hired by the Kansas City Southern Railroad, beginning a career that would span over 50 years. Through hard work, loyalty, and integrity, he earned the respect and admiration of many.
In 1951, Mike was drafted into the army and served in the Korean War. Following his return, he married the love of his life, Patty Kraus, with whom he raised 7 children and shared 51 wonderful years. Together, they were the epitome of happiness and a beautiful example for all of us. Mike touched all those who had the pleasure of knowing him with his kindness and warmth. It was his greatest happiness to give joy to those around him. He was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Patty; his parents; brother Raymond McClain, and sisters Mary Lynch, Ellen Dunn and Cecelia McClain. He is survived by seven children and their spouses, Julie and Tim Flynn, Overland Park, KS, Tim and Peggy McClain, Kingsport, TN, Mike and Melissa McClain, Chesterland, OH, John McClain and Kerry Browne-McClain, Kansas City, MO, Jane and John Purpura, Leawood, KS, Steve and Mary Beth McClain, Kansas City, MO and Mary and Jim Meysenburg, Kansas City, MO and 22 grandchildren. The family also wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to caregiver, Jewelie Glover for her years of dedicated service and friendship. Additionally, friend Carol Coleman is acknowledged for the joy and companionship that she brought in recent years.
