

Michael (Mike) John Murphy passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 15, 2010 surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Ferol and Hope Murphy on July 13, 1957. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1976. He worked as a mechanic at Duke’s DX in Brookside during high school. After graduation he got a job at W.E. Anderson which later became Dwyer Instruments which ended up being a 30+ year career. Mike married Margaret Cordon in 1987, they had one son. Mike loved to cook, travel, fish and read. He was preceded in death by his father Ferol Murphy and mother-in-law and father-in-law Alice and John Cordon. He is survived by his wife Margaret and son Joshua of the home, his mother Hope Murphy of Kansas City, brother Pat Murphy of Raymore, and sister Kathie Strentz and her husband Don of Overland Park. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, many, many friends, and his buddy, Duke. Mike had a huge heart and was always thinking about ‘helping out the other guy.’ The family would like to thank the people at Menorah Medical Center for the exceptional care they gave Mike the last few months of his life, but most of all thanks to his closest friends who were by his side during the entire time. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, 4101 E. 105th Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
