Michael Albert Kleinman, 76, passed away at Hospice House on July 29, 2018 after battling cancer for a short period of time. He was surrounded by family and friends who shared his love of life. The Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m., Friday, August 3, 2018 at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145. Visitation will follow until 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas More, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pierce City, MO on Monday, August 6 at 11 a.m.
Mike was born on January 27, 1942 in Kansas City, MO. He attended St. Francis Xavier Grade School. He then crossed the street to Rockhurst High School, graduated, and then went to Rockhurst College. Mike attended St. Louis University and graduated with a degree in law.
Mike began his career by working as publicity director for the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics. The annual NAIA basketball tournament was one of his many projects. During that time he met many true and loyal friends, including the late Lou Spry and Joe Axelson.
His love for sports continued as he began his career in banking. Mike worked at various banks, learning many different ideas and developing many lasting friendships. Midwest Trust was the highlight of his career, seeing it grow from the beginning stage to its present financial influence.
After retirement, he worked at Rockhurst University. He went to Rockhurst High School where he was working until the time of his death.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Mary Helen and Albert Kleinman. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and dedicated grandfather. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Jo Kleinman (Shannon), his one son Kevin Michael and Neysa Kleinman, and his two grandchildren Aiden and Atley Kleinman. He also leaves behind one sister Kathy Sulley and husband Bill, several cousins and great cousins, and his aunt Mary Kitchin, who has always been there for Mike and his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Hurtado Scholars Program of Rockhurst High School, 9301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64114.
Mike’s advice to all would be to live your life for the Greater Glory of God.
